I wanted to thank you for all of the wonderful leadership coaching sessions to help me navigate some of my work challenges and frustrations.

The sessions we have had have been so helpful for me to dig deeper into the environment I’m working in, but mostly dig deeper into myself and the things that hold me back. I have noticed a big shift for me in the way I process and manage my work interactions. While I still have a ways to go to feel like I have mastered the art of work communication and advocating for my career needs, I have already seen and felt positive changes in my journey. For example, I have noticed the confident, self-assured voice in my head that used to not be very loud, now coming out louder and more clear, talking myself into asking for what I need. In fact, I hear that voice pushing me sometimes when I start shying away from being assertive and being complacent. Prior to working with you, I used to quiet that voice frequently by talking myself out of what I needed and wanted. But now I am learning to listen to that voice, and to not suppress what I need or succumb to fear.

One of the most valuable tools I’ve learned so far has been identifying and clearly defining my own values more crisply. It is very powerful when I identify how some of my work experiences don’t align with my values and create a huge feeling of incongruence for me. I am learning how to honor my values more and more by using them as my framework for how to position my communication style and conversations with my manager and others. I am beginning to recognize my own power in these situations. I am starting to reject the status quo of me just accepting bad situations at my own expense as what I “have to live with” in order to “keep others happy”. I am learning to make it a more natural and repeatable practice to advocate for what I need and view myself as an equal player.

I am also learning that It’s OK for me to reject some of the bad advice I get from people whose points of views may be impaired by their own unconscious biases and limitations. I am learning to listen to my own inner voice more and more and not seek approval from others. I am also learning to not inherit other people’s negative feelings or take on the burdens others want to put on me. Setting healthy boundaries has been a huge skill that I have honed. I have been able to apply these skills at work and in my personal life as a result of our sessions together.

Finally, one of the other areas I’ve grown in over the time we have worked together has been in my ability to see how my past behaviors and attitudes towards my own needs has not served me well in gaining the respect and career opportunities I want for myself. I have realized that I am not always operating in ways that acknowledge my needs and best interests. Sometimes I accept less than what I want and deserve. Sometimes I take a submissive position out of habit and self doubt. The work I’ve done with you has really helped me start to see my own negative patterns and behaviors. But it is helping me also see my strengths and true value so I can tap into my self worth. I am excited to see myself start to break some of my behavior patterns. I cannot wait to continue gaining more control over my tendencies and gain more mastery of the invaluable life and career management skills I am learning.
